The daily grind – Joining Rakettitiede, part 3/3

In this final part of our three-part series, our four rocket scientists share what the daily grind on board the Rocket has really been like after signing the contract.

Part 1: First taste

Part 2: The decisive moment

Part 3: The daily grind

Ever since our very first date, our consultants felt that Rakettitiede had a fair and relaxed culture, witty colleagues, and a solid pay model. Those impressions only grew stronger during the recruitment process – but how do they hold up in day-to-day life?

We asked four rocket scientists to share their experiences:

  • Nicoandres Rodriguez, rocket scientist #67

  • Ville Räsänen, rocket scientist #71

  • Ville Lindholm, rocket scientist #72

  • anonymous rocket scientist

How’s life in the moon suit?

Nicoandres rates his experience “10/10” – even though finding his consultant identity took some time.

The whole crew says they’re happy – which, of course, makes our central command beam with joy. That said, our consultants spend most of their time with clients, not at the mother ship. So what’s the one key to keeping people happy? Letting them choose their own gigs. A motivated developer is a win for everyone.

Ville R. praises the team spirit and how easy it is to ask for help. Ville L. says the office and small events brought back some much-needed social vibes after years of remote work.

Nicoandres gives the fit of his moon suit a “10/10” – although he admits it took some time to find his footing as a consultant: “Defining my identity as a consultant was difficult in my first gig since the client had a strong identity and culture, making it hard to distinguish my role as a consultant rather than an employee.”

Caretakers – because you’re worth it

“The best part? Not having to stress about the little stuff – we’ve got great health insurance, solid pay, and a caretaker who makes sure everything’s running smoothly,” says our anonymous rocket scientist.

The caretaker system – featuring a dedicated person supporting each consultant – was a pleasant surprise for Ville R., too. “Whatever my next assignment is, I feel like I’m in good hands,” Ville L. adds.

Nicoandres was impressed by the company’s resilience: “The company's strong performance during difficult times in the industry has been truly surprising and definitely stands out among others.”

And how does it compare to the quartet’s previous jobs?

For Ville R., the difference is clear: “Sales is much more in touch with the consultants.”

“There are more opportunities to have a say.” – Ville R. rocket scientist #71

Nicoandres and Ville L., both coming from product houses, say the switch to consulting has changed how they view their work – for the better.

Our consultant quartet is thriving – maybe you would too?

Rocket scientists describe Rakettitiede’s culture as equal, relaxed and genuinely warm.

Ville L. feels like he’s in good hands.

“The company culture is a blend of fun, warmth, and skilled people, all together in one shot,” says Nicoandres.

“Rakettitiede strikes a great balance – we have fun, we learn together, and if the client’s in a rush, there’s no pressure to join every little thing. I also really appreciate the fact that we’re treated like people, not just numbers in a spreadsheet,” adds resource #72… ahem… Ville Lindholm.

Across the board, there’s a shared sense that Rakettitiede is somehow unique – it has a way of working that people don’t want to lose or change too much. There are no complex management hierarchies or grinding bureaucratic gears here. Instead, transparency and openness are what keep things running smoothly.

Top tips for future applicants

Here’s our interviewees’ tips for someone considering a career as a rocket scientist:

  • “Give it an honest shot. My recruitment process took over a year, and even if it doesn’t work out right away, you’ll get valuable feedback – especially from the technical interview. When the timing’s right, the Rocket might be the perfect fit.” – Ville R.

  • “Don’t hesitate. Go for it. You won’t regret it.” – Anonymous rocket scientist

  •  “Being a consultant is different from being an employee – in a good way. I love learning from different teams and tackling new challenges.” – Nicoandres

  • “Send in your application! You’ll get a feel for the vibe during the interviews. And remember to think about all your strengths – not just your tech stack. That stuff comes and goes.” – Ville L.
